I LOVE a good chocolatey protein shake. But you know what’s even better? A chocolate protein shake that doubles as a cup of coffee! That’s why I make them in our house almost every afternoon.
To make thick, creamy, very filling and sweet tooth satisfying chocolate protein shakes that also give you caffeine driven inspiration to tackle the rest of your day, this is the recipe I use:
Makes 2 big Chocolatey Mocha Protein Shakes
2 1/2 cups of milk (I use an unsweetened original almond milk)
2 1/2 scoops of chocolate protein powder (I typically use Sunwarrior brand)
2 T. cocoa powder
1 chopped pitted date
2 teaspoons of instant coffee or two Starbuck’s Via packets (adjust according to your caffeine needs, desires and tolerance) Or, make a darn good chocolatey protein shake and leave the coffee out entirely!
2 big handfuls of ice (about 12 ice cubes)
Tip: Be kind to your blender (and lower your frustration level!) by adding the ice to your blender so that it ends up being the ingredient furthest away from the blades once you begin blending. Your blender will have a much easier time getting the job done this way!
If you’re feeling sassy, here are some other ingredients to consider adding to this shake:
- A Frozen Banana
- Peanut Butter
- Finely Chopped Dark or Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
